A saxophone solo of 'Oh Holy Night'...

I wish I could have soft saxophone music playing in the background to introduce my card and set the 'mood' but hey ho, we will all have pretend. A while back I created a set of Christmas cards using non-Christmas dies and this is the 3rd in the set. You can find my other cards HERE and HERE.

The colour scheme for my card was inspired by the colour and texture of the NEW Craft perfect card - recently released by Tonic Studios on Hochanda - called Cinnamon Silk.

I covered a 7"x7" white card blank with Cinnamon Silk card, lightly darkening the edges with Nuvo Hybrid Ink - Black Shadow. The Saxophone player has been cut once in white and then embossed only in kraft card. I added the white outline to the embossed detail and then cut out the whole image. Using Indian Gold & Burnished Bronze mousses, I added colour to the edges. The extra shadow was created using Nuvo Hybrid Ink, Black Shadow.

Next I cut a selection of both music and star die cuts using white & cinnamon silk card. Each die cut had the edges coloured - same a saxophone player - and then I began deciding where they would go.

I began by creating a matt panel, sticking the snowflakes to the back, gluing this panel to my card front. Before sticking the saxophone player down, I had a 'light bulb' moment and glued the perfect harmony die cut down first, layering the saxophone player with 3D foam).

I double layered or shadowed the 'O Holy Night' sentiment and added it to the card front, slightly overlapping it on the saxophone. Next, the real faffing part ... adding the 'extras' ... in this case other die cuts. Now for me, this part can take as long as making the main card. I'm getting better at controlling all the 'stuff', 'froo froo' and 'just in case' I now add but it's not easy. You should see my desk as I put a selection of this & that out to see if it will work ... so time consuming and 9 times out of 10, unnecessary. At least I'm recognising this and hopefully, might cure myself, although it will be a long struggle (lol).

Am really pleased with myself at the mo, as for once, I am amassing a collection of Christmas cards and might just be ready, (you never know, fingers crossed and all that). Bella if you read this, you'd be proud of me as it was your advice of small batch making that has pushed to be a wee bit more organised.

Right gotta go and apologise to the ever so lovely Dawny P as my card is late for the "Win & Tonic" challenge this month ... catch you all later,

Lou

Spellbloggers post - Love is a bird ... she needs to fly

I've been very good and created a bank of ideas using my new Spellbinders goodies, for my next Spellblogger projects but before I could start, I just HAD TO play one more times with 'Swallow & Heart'  stamp & die se. If you hadn't guessed, I'm in 'lurve' with this set ...

I created a simple background using distress ink (tumbled glass) and the sentiment stamp and kept the stamping to 2nd generation - wanted an aged, faded look.

Next I die cut the heart tag twice and layered these on to my card front. I stamped the sentiment in black, die cutting with the matching die and set this on to the hearts.

I stamped each of the bird images, again die cutting with their matching dies and placed them where I thought they fitted best. A quick simple card but loving the look. I wonder if you went for 'zingy' colours whether it would take on a diferent slant .... uummmm, will add to my 'to do' list as MUST get going on my Christmas projects.

Catch you later and many thanks for popping over,

Lou

Decorating the tree with Winnie ...

I'm becoming slightly worried about myself as feel I may be slowly turning in to a laptop geek! In normal circumstances, I just plug it in, turn it on and start doing what I want to do but with my new laptop, I've become a wee bit obsessed with the keyboard layout ... there's icon buttons up the side with new - to me - symbols on which need playing with ... okay Louise, back in the room and finish your post ....

Still launch time over at Polkadoodles for the NEW release ... Winnie White Christmas and I would like to share my 3rd project with you all. This time I have used "Winnie Decorating the tree" clear polymer stamp ...

I have again coloured Winnie with my Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor pencils and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The only thing I would change ... my colouring on the tree. Somehow all the colours appear to have blended in to one and look uninspiring. I know, I know ... we're all major critics when it comes to our own work ...

To give the illusion that Winnie has been mounted on to a die cut frame, I have used the largest corner die from Polkadoodles Ribbon Gift Frame & Corners set to create my frame and where pieces overlap, I have used the decorative ribbon die (also from the same set).

All papers are from the Jolly Holly 6"x6" paper pad, as is the sentiment and little numbered tag. If you haven't seen this paper pad, it's definitely worth popping over to the shop and checking it out: great quality paper, fabulous feel to the papers and finally magnificent designs.

Right am off to start transferring files that need to be on this new laptop and I'm trying to be good from the offset and not over clutter it ... uuummmmm, I may need to remind myself of that on a regular basis! way too many folders already ...,

Computer woes made better by Winnie ...

Oh my what a stressful few days - long, long days - I have experienced as my old lappie decided that it wanted to retire. Sadly it didn't give me due warning but wanted to go NOW! Thankfully, a couple of days before, I had completed a huge backup on to my hard dirve so although it was a 'pain' at least I didn't lose anything of great value. Good news, new lappie but boy oh boy, the pain of updates! Updates for this, that and the other and then when I thought all was good, more updates ...! Also the biggest change for me: a soft touch keyboard which I am slowly getting used to typing on. Enough of my bizzarre laptop ramblings and on to my project.

Over at Polkadoodles a new range of products has been launched and the collection is called "Winnie White Christmas". There are wonderful stamps, a new USB, paper pads, papercrafting kit and oodles and oodles more. Check out the full collection HERE. Today I'm going to share my 2nd project using Winnie Penguin Gifts clear stamp ...

I have kept my card simple so that Winnie if the main focal point. Using one of the papers from the Jolly Holly 6"x6" paper pad, I glued this to my card blank. Next with the "Heartfelt Wishes" sentiment stamp, I stamped a border around all edges. I cut out the Bubbleicious Frame on white glitter card. This is going to be my mount to show Winnie off.

Winnie - and the penguins - have been coloured with Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor pencils and then the image cut out. I created an opening on the Bubbleicious frame (at the bottom), so I could seemlessly slip the images on to the die cut. If you make the photo bigger and look at the penguins, you can probably get a better idea of what I mean. The extra snowballs/circles are the waste from the frame dotted here and there.

A quick simple card but packed full of cuteness ... I hope you agree. Pop over to the Polkadoodles Facebook page to see all the other fabulous launch designs from the DT and I'll be back tomorrow with another new project featuring Winnie,

Winnie White Christmas has arrived ...

Nikky Hall from Polkadoodles has a wonderful NEW release today in the shop called "Winnie White Christmas". There is soooooo much to choose from - paper kits, card kits, stamps, digi stamps, download and the NEW USB format (to replace CDs). Check out all the new releases HERE.

My first project is using "Winnie Lighting Up the Way" clear stamp ...

I've made a 7"x7" card base (using kraft card) and stamped Winnie on to the same card. She has been coloured with my Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor pencils and added sparkle added with Nuvo Crystal Drops (Pearl White) and Nuvo Sparkle Dust.

I've used the largest die from the Elegant Nest set (also from Polkadoodles) to put Winnie on and distressed the edges. The backing paper is from the Jolly Holly 6"x6" paper pad. The sentiment is also from the paper pad mounted on to the smallest Elegant Nest die cut. I've added some stamped holly and even more die cuts ... all from Polkadoodles

The tag behind Winnie is also made from kraft card, covered randomly with white ink and then stamped over. However I still can't decide whether I should add a ribbon to the tag ... what do you think?

I've also used the Nuvo Crystal Drops to add dimension to all the holly berries and a few extra ones in Winnie's hair - well, why not ...

There is a huge launch party going on in the Polkadoodles Crafting Group on Facebook page, (HERE), so pop over and join in the fun ... maybe even snaffle a discount or two as well.
